The Food Container Without the Hormone Disruptors

The Problem

"BPA-free" plastic replacements aren't safer. BPS and BPF, common substitutes, show similar hormone-disrupting effects in laboratory studies.

Heat accelerates chemical migration. Fat accelerates it further — oils and greasy foods pull more compounds from plastic and silicone into what you eat. The warm curry in a silicone-lidded container, the oily leftovers stored overnight, the reheated lunch — every meal is an exposure opportunity. Silicone gaskets sit in direct food contact. The seal that keeps your container leak-proof is the seal that leaches into your food.

Most containers put polymer against food somewhere. Full-plastic containers leach when heated. Glass with silicone gaskets — better body, same lid problem. "Stainless steel" containers with silicone lids — steel body, silicone still touching food. Daily use across breakfast, lunch, dinner means cumulative exposure the safety limits were never designed to account for.

The Gap

All-steel food containers exist — but they don't stack. Stackable containers exist — with silicone or plastic lids. The geometry to combine both is straightforward engineering. Industrial kitchens already use nested steel storage. The consumer market never adopted it because a silicone-gasketed plastic lid costs pennies to mould. Steel lids require precision tooling for a structural fit. The economics killed the product before anyone tested the demand.

What Should Exist

A food storage container made entirely of stainless steel — body and lid — that stacks when empty and when full.

  • All-steel construction — body, lid, no polymer anywhere. Single material, infinitely recyclable without degradation. UK kerbside accepted.
  • Stackable empty — efficient cupboard storage through nesting geometry
  • Stackable full — efficient fridge storage through lid-and-base interlock
  • Spill-resistant — structural fit between lid and body, not a polymer seal
  • Temperature-proof — freezer-safe, oven-safe, dishwasher-safe

The Honest Position

No gasket means no airtight seal. These containers will be spill-resistant through precision structural fit, not leak-proof. If you need to transport liquid — soup, stew, broth — this isn't your container. (That's a different Magic Wand.) This is for solid food storage without chemical migration.

Steel costs more than plastic. A set will be a premium purchase, not a supermarket impulse buy. The trade-off is one purchase that outlasts a lifetime of replacements.
